WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU HATE CARDIO
Ahhhh cardiovascular exercise - Some love it and some (most) hate it. But like all hard things in life, they often yield massive reward. Apart from food, physical exercise is the most powerful tool you can utilize to manipulate body composition. But there's just one problem. What if you really hate cardio? Better yet, what if you're simply unable to perform it due to a past injury or experience?
We've got you covered. We have come up with 5 ways to help you shred your body fat like never before, while never ever having to step foot on that nasty monotonous treadmill again.
Ready? here we go:
1. LIFT WEIGHTS FASTER
There's an old joke in the fitness industry that if you don't like cardio you can simply 'lift weights faster'. The truth is, this couldn't be more accurate! If you love to lift weights, then lift more of them! It is a common concept for competitive bodybuilders (competitive sport where the lowest level of body fat wins) to simply add a compound movement at high volume to conclude their daily weight training session. For instance if you train your chest, finish your workout with 10 x 20 rep bench press with only a 30 second rest in between sets. If you are training your back, incorporate a 10 x 10 deadlift circuit with 30 seconds in between sets. the same principal came be applied with Barbell Squats on leg day and so on!
2. JOIN A LOCAL SPORTING TEAM
A lot of the time people's main issue with cardio is they find it (quite frankly) boring. A great way to make cardio seem effortless is to surround yourself with people whose company you enjoy, especially if they push you to your limits! All mainstream sports are generally fantastic forms of cardio, so join in the action and see what local sporting clubs are near you.
3. MAKE IT FUN
As previously stated, cardio doesn't have to be boring. There are plenty of exciting, adrenaline pumping experiences that can very easily translate to cardiovascular exercise.
Here's a few suggestions:
- Trampoline Park
- Obstacle Courses
- Rock Climbing
- Hiking
- Nature Walks
- Swimming
- Fun at the Beach
- Alone time with your spouse or partner ;)
4. GO TO A DANCE CLASS
This one could be a case of 'hitting two birds with one stone', especially if you're married or want to spice things up with the love of your life. it could even be a cheeky reason to see your girlfriends, have some you time or escape your children for a few hours. Fitness comes in many forms, and among the fittest of the fittest people stand (you guessed it).. Dancers.
5. CROSSFIT or F45
Functional resistance training is both fun and challenging, plus the group atmosphere is great for motivation or letting your competitive side loose. With the right coaches, this style of resistance training can give some of the best fat burning and muscle building results.
