- Hey burners, I'm here with Ricky from Prana. Thanks for being here.

- Thanks for having me Paul

- Appreciate it. So obviously Prana is massive in the vegan space in Australia, it's the most recognizable brand for vegan supplementation. While you're here we just want to get the story behind it. Why did Prana start, how did it begin its grass roots?

- So Prana back in the day goes all the way back to when our owner figured out that in this actual space, there wasn't anything out there that filled a lot of the nutritional requirements in the plant based space.

- Yep.

- And also any flavors that tasted bearable. A lot of them were quite gritty. A lot of them were quite chalky, they didn't really mix easily. So he decided to come out with his own range, being our Power Plant--

- Yes, this guy here

- Back in the day it didn't look as nice as it did now, they were little brown bags. But we evolved and we are where we're at now.

- Right, and so Power Plant was the first one to come out. We've got a few varieties here. The next one was the Phyto Fire was it?

- Yes the Phyto Fire.

- And what's the difference between Power Plant and Phyto Fire?

- So the Power Plant was originally made for people who don't necessarily train, but need to fill a lot of those nutritional gaps in their diet, obviously being plant-based and vegan and vegetarian.

- Right.

- We packed it full of as much potential nutrients as we could. Full spectrum amino acids, low-calorie. Main sources being brown rice, pea based and sacha inchi as well.

- Yes.

- As well as adding flavor in there so it tastes generally good.

- And that's the thing that Prana is known for, is that flavoring system for vegan proteins, amazing.

- That's what kind of propelled us into this space and really set a benchmark for the plant-based market.

- And then Phyto Fire came out and that is--

- Phyto Fire, that was our fat burning protein that we brought out into the market space. The Phyto Fire is slightly different from Power Plant. We packed it full of your Acetyl-L-Carnitine, green coffee bean for your natural energy production. Your fat metabolization as well. But it's actually a good alternative because its got a little bit of caffeine in there, but it's natural caffeine versus artificial.

- Yes.

- Totally different thing. We brought that out for anyone that's a morning trainer. So the F45 people that train in the morning that don't necessarily have anything in their stomach. A nice fast digesting protein that doesn't sit so heavy is a lot better than having nothing.

- Yes.

- So that's why we originally brought out Phyto Fire with the 11 key nutrients for your fat burning, your high protein hit as well that tastes good.

- So you've got basically, well your basic vegan protein

- Anytime protein.

- And then your anytime protein, and now you've got your fat burning protein. Awesome, and then we have this one here which came out quite a bit later, the Natural Mass.

- So the Natural Mass, yes.

- How did this one come out? Why did they, why did Prana go down this road?

- So we originally didn't have anything in the space that resembled a "mass gainer". Obviously in natural space, we're limited to how many calories we can put in there and limited to what sources we can use.

- So our entire range being soy-free, gluten free, non-GMO, peanut-free, all of the good stuff.

- Yep.

- We don't use potato starch, we use cassava root.

- Right, yep.

- So cassava root allows us--

- That's the carb source in here.

- That's the carb source here that we use that is peanut-free, nut-free as well, and gluten-free. Which is more important so. The Natural Mass is a lean gainer. It's 50/50. So it's 30 grams protein, 30 grams carbs. As well as having your vegan fermented creatine monohydrate. L-glutamine, L-arginine, and also beta-alanine.

- You look for that in a mass gainer. And so I suppose being in the industry for a long time, mass gainers were typically, they worked but they were particularly pretty nasty. They're all chock-full of sugar, artificial colors, flavors, even sweeteners. And so Prana has obviously gone, "Let's take the most natural, vegan source protein "and then complete it with a vegan mass gainer."

- Yes

- And then that's it. I love it So when people come in and they go "Have you got "a more natural alternative?" Now--

- It's Prana.

- There's a space there for it.

- Yes.

- And it's the Natural Mass. Also, so obviously Prana is all vegan-based and nothing artificial. So who's it for?

- So predominately, I mean the biggest thing that people might have a little bit of confusion. Because we have that vegan certification on the label, they tend to think "Okay well I'm not necessarily vegan, "I am vegetarian" but because it says vegan they're limited, they don't want to try it. They don't think it's for them.

- I think that's quite funny.

- And it is, it's like that across the board. But the reason why we put that in there is so for anyone who is vegan or is vegetarian, they don't have to spend an entire two days sifting through the ingredients to see if it's actually suitable for their dietary requirement. But it also acts as just a quality insurance trademark.

- Right

- That you can actually have confidence in all the lines that we bring out. They're gonna all be tasting well and they're gonna fit your dietary requirements as well.

- Right, so it is suitable for vegans. But--

- But the general public.

- The general public, you don't have to be a vegan to have this product.

- Definitely not, definitely not.

- So just as a side note, like we mentioned before it does have no artificial colors, flavors, or sweeteners. So even if you're not a vegan, you might be after something that's all natural. This ticks the box. And being a vegetarian sourced protein, it's alkalizing to the body.

- Absolutely.

- So you know it's a healthy state to be in, so people might want to be alkalizing and then that can do it too.

- Absolutely.

- So it's for everyone, but also suitable for vegans.

- Yes.
