Tips to stay health & fit during uni

best tips to stay fit healthy while studying

As you begin the new Uni Semester, we are sure that many of you might be scared of the upcoming long study hours, excessive amounts of caffeine, lack of sleep and bad food choices.

We know how hard it is to stay motivated and healthy during the uni semester, so we’ve created a list of do’s and don’ts  to keep you on track! A way to keep you healthy this semester and keep you fit, feeling great and can help you kick your exams in the butt!!

Prep Food

There’s nothing more daunting than getting home after a long day of lectures and tutorials and having to think about what you’re going to make for dinner. For those of us who don’t have the motivation to make ourselves a healthy meal when we’re tired, we tend to gravitate towards easy, cheap and fast food. To avoid this bad habit, we recommend prepping your food in advance. If you need to procrastinate from your studies, consider making a big healthy curry or chicken with vegetables, which you can then freeze and enjoy on those more stressful & exhausting days, where effort is lacking. Dinner soon becomes as easy as taking a container out of the freezer in the morning and heating it up in the microwave at 6:30pm. If breakfast is also a daunting idea and you find yourself grabbing a banana as you run out the door or skipping it all together, baking some super food muffins with a dash of Protein (e.g. Bioflex Biofurnace) before the week starts can go a long way to helping you stay on track. Eating in the morning is very important for cognitive function and skipping breakfast can have some serious impacts on your ability to focus and your overall health.

Reduce Caffeine Intake

Many articles have been written on the benefits of caffeine, especially when it comes to focus and creativity. However, uni students in particular, tend to overdo the amount of caffeine they consume with three or four coffees a day (sometimes more…). Caffeine, although beneficial in small quantities, can have dire side effects when over abused, such as jitters, anxiety,  high levels of stress and insomnia. Reducing caffeine intake can ensure that your cortisol levels stay low - reducing anxiety, stress and controlling weight gain. If you find you function better with caffeine hit a day, we recommend you take stimulant based fat burner with a medium clinical dose of caffeine. These supplements contains a suitable amount of caffeine to keep you energised, focused and alert without over doing it. Fat burners also taste great and contain less calories than a flat white or milky coffee. These fat burners are designed to prevent you from experiencing a crash mid afternoon, therefore you will find that just one scoop per day will help to give you sustained energy. Another added benefit of Fat burners is that they will also aid in increasing your daily calorie burn, which is beneficial if you are trying to lose weight during the semester!

FBO Study Stack

Here at FBO we sympathise with study stress and uni life - most of us have been there. So we’ve created the perfect study stack that will help you to lose weight, stay healthy & focused.

Control your stress with Cort RX - ATP Science

Cort RX is a combination of natural ingredients specifically designed to help your body adapt to high levels of stress. High stress increases the production of the stress hormone cortisol which can cause weight gain, hypertension, as well as psychological side effects including depression and anxiety. Cort RX is designed to help restore a healthy balance of cortisol levels and patterns in the body allowing you to wake up feeling refreshed and sleep without interuption. Cort RX can also help reduce fat deposits around the stomach linked with cortisol.

Get a healthy caffeine hit with Green Tea X50

Each serve of Green Tea X50 is the equivalent of 50 cups of green tea and can be the perfect replacement for coffee. Coffee is great a caffeine boost but often is over consumed. Not to mention most of us have our coffee with milk and sugar, meaning you're adding extra empty calories to your diet. Green Tea X50 tastes great and a great alternative to coffee for many reasons;

  • Contains all the antioxidants of green tea, (great for fat loss and gives the body extra nutrients)
  • Contains natural caffeine that provides lasting and clean energy.
  • Only contains 10 calories per serve so even if you did want an extra serve you wouldn't have to worry about going over calories,
  • Our Green Tea X50 90 serves is great value and will last you all semester
  • Comes in an assortment of delicious flavours so you’ll never get bored!! *

**Pro tip from our FBO team member, Chloe, "Buy the ice coffee flavour, mix it with cold almond milk in the morning and some ice and it tastes just like an ice coffee!."

Acetyl L-Carnitine is not only a great natural fat burner (ALCAR Review), but we've added it into the stack because of its killer ability to help sustain mental clarity. Uni days can be long & tiresome thanks to many hours of study and lectures. Taking Acetyl L-Carnitine will ensure that you are able to stay focused and get some great work done.

30 Mins of Activity a Day

We hear it all the time, but how many of us actually do it? It’s hard to commit to exercise every day due to busy schedules, tiredness or just laziness. However putting this time aside every day can vastly improve your mood, health and energy levels. Simply going for a walk, a bike ride, swimming, going to the gym or yoga will get your blood pumping and invigorate your body, and mind keeping you fresh, sharp, happy and healthy.

Get enough sleep!

What is this "sleep" thing you may ask? Sleep can be hard to catch up on once you’ve neglected it for a while. There are two important stages of sleep - normal deep sleep and REM. If you are sleep deprived your body will prioritise REM sleep before deep sleep to attempt to rest your brain. However this can leave your body lacking rest, making you weak, unfocused, and incapable of performing your daily activities. Accumulated sleep deprivation can have even worse side effects including hallucinations, high blood pressure, weight gain, daytime sleepiness and short term memory loss. Making sure you get enough sleep every night is incredibly important for your health!

Good luck with the coming semester and remember, stay healthy - From the FBO Team!
