Muscle Building Hitting Plateau

Published : 08/04/2014

We have all been through it – and many have been beaten by the plateau and overtraining. But what is it exactly and how do we beat it? man

Firstly what is training plateau – At one point in time people are almost always going to hit a point in their program where no matter the amount of training they do, their progress whether it be muscle gain or weight loss will stop. This could be due to a number of factors such as over training, eating too much or too little, or changing workouts too often.

How do you know you have hit plateau

You find you have loss in strength – If you are overtraining your body may struggle to finish the last couple of reps. If you find that the weights you’ve been doing for a while become a struggle it may be that you’re not giving your body enough time to recover. This can be a problem as you can also cause injury and perform sets incorrectly.

You find you’re lacking motivation – if your find yourself struggling to get out of bed, or your body is aching or simply tired, you will struggle to find the determination to go exercise. This is a way of your body telling you, you’re overtraining. So give yourself a week rest. Maintain a healthy diet and you won’t lose any of your progress.

You find you lack aggression during training and become increasingly irritable - Alternatively you can add a Fat Burner in with your training program to help increase energy, boost mood, improve recovery, and help in burning more calories.

Depending on the person, you can consider choosing one of the following options.

Take a break from training – Let your body recover from training, then when you get back into the gym – your body will be given a shock and kick start your program again.

Keep up the usual training but expect minimal results – Keep up the same program, however consider pushing yourself that little bit more with goals or consider timing your sets and try and beat it.

Push through the plateau as if it isn’t even a problem – Just keep following your training program, push and test yourself every week.
