How to Master the Art of Goal Setting | Set Big Goals

GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER - The Art of Goal Setting

"A goal properly set is halfway reached" - Zig Ziglar

"If you don't design your own life  plan, chances are you'll fall into someone else's plan. And guess what they have planned for you? Not much." - Jim Rohn

"It's not about the goal. It's about becoming the type of person that can accomplish the goal." - Tony Robbins

The Self Audit

"You can't change what you don't acknowledge" - Dr. Phil

Bronnie Ware is an Australian nurse that spent several years in palliative care, caring for patients in the last 12 weeks of their lives. According to Bronnie, the "most common regret of all" was "I wish I'd had the courage to live a life true to myself." She found that most of her patients had lived their entire lives not honouring even half of their biggest dreams and had to die knowing the choices they had made, or not made.

That is NOT you.

If you have clicked on this article and read this far, chances are there are some changes you would like to make - most likely to your health or body. If so, grab a pen, paper and a coffee and sit with us as we give you the practical tools to create goals, create a plan and manifest them into reality.

Today we are going to conduct a 'self-audit'. The first step is to evaluate and reflect. Here's what we want you to do:

1. Write down your current situation, honestly.

In dot points or paragraph, write down your current situation now. Go deep, be completely honest with yourself.

Once completed, hold your writing up in front of you and ask yourself;

"Is this okay?"

2. Define your dreams, no matter how big or small.

So what was it that made you click on this article after all?

Take time on this one. Ask yourself what you really want from your life.

To make this easier, we have broken this part down into what we believe are the four pillars of an incredible life of fulfilment.

  •          Health
  •          Wealth
  •          Love
  •          Happiness

What is your vision for each of these pillars? What do they look like in a perfect world, how would they have improved to meet your ideal standards? Be very clear about this, your very fate may depend on it.

3. Create a plan, and be S.M.A.R.T. about it.

Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, Time-sensitive = S.M.A.R.T.

Specific

Don't tip-toe about here. Ultimately we are all a product of our decision making habits. Decisions have the power to create life-altering shifts - but only when we take control. Decide what you want, and state it clearly. Think what, where, how, who with, terms, conditions and most importantly - why.

Measurable

After defining your 'want' specifically, it's now time to come up with a criteria for being able to measure your progress. this part will keep you going, provide motivation to persist and beat your previous effort.

Attainable

To fill out this section you need only ask yourself three words.

"Is this achievable?"

Making sure your goal is realistic is extremely important. There's nothing wrong with aiming for the Moon, you may just land amongst the stars. However, if goal setting isn't your forte just yet, start small and work your way up.

Relevant

So now we have a specific, measurable and attainable goal. It's time to take one more look and conclude that this is the right time in your life for this goal. That the behaviour that is required to achieve this goal aligns with you, your family and your career. If so, then pat yourself on the back because it's life-shift time! On we go.

Time-sensitive

Knowing exactly what you want is great but here's the hard part. We are all on a time limit, and our heart beat is the clock.

The art of goal-setting is one that is bound by time. If you really want to achieve your goals, make it real by giving yourself a strict time-frame. Accountability is key.

So there you have it! You know have all the tools you need to be a lean, mean goal-getting machine! Comment below this article and let us know YOUR goals!

Much love,
